SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Officials say firefighters rescued a woman and child trapped on the balcony of a burning apartment in Sioux Falls. Crews responded to the apartment building about 2 a.m. Sunday and saw smoke and flames coming from the patio door of a second-floor apartment. Firefighters used a ladder to reach the woman and child on the balcony.

The Argus Leader reports residents of adjacent apartments were evacuated. One resident sustained a minor injury. Officials say the fire was contained to the apartment where it started, although there was smoke damage in the hallway.
