Commission to vote on ordinance at special meeting tonight

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – Aberdeen City Commissioners will vote on an ordinance relaxing COVID-19 restrictions on businesses during a special meeting at 5 tonight. The meeting will be streamed live on the Hub City Radio Facebook page.

The ordinance passed a first reading by a 5-3 margin on Friday. Mayor Travis Schaunaman was one of the three who voted against the ordinance. He talked about the issue.

Schaunaman would rather not have an ordinance that restricts businesses at all.

The City Council will also have a second vote on a different ordinance this coming Monday. That one deals with bars having outdoor seating. The council passed a first reading earlier this week.

Schaunaman said the city hasn’t seen a decrease in revenue during the pandemic, but also needs to help local businesses get back on their feet.
