PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The South Dakota Department of Health reported four new COVID-19 related deaths today, including one in Brown County.

The deaths included two men and two women. Two were in the age 80 and over category, one was in the 40-49 age group and the other was in the 60-69 group. Other deaths were residents of Minnehaha, Pennington and Union counties. It raised the state’s overall death total to 73.

The number of active cases continues to fall in the state. There were 61 new confirmed cases reported to go along with 91 new recoveries. That left the state’s active cases at 928. The state started out the week with 1,038 active cases.

South Dakota has had 5,665 confirmed cases with 4,664 recoveries. There were 998 new negative tests reported bringing that overall total to 56,079. There are currently 87 people hospitalized because of the virus.

Brown County did not have any new confirmed cases today and had six new recoveries. The county currently has 37 active cases, down 10 from the start of the week. Brown County has had 2,006 negative tests.

Minnehaha County had 14 new cases reported, bringing its state-leading total to 3,444. Beadle County had 13 new cases and has the second most confirmed cases in the state at 411. Pennington County had 16 new cases and now has 351. Brown County is fourth with 305. Lincoln County has had 259 confirmed cases and Union County has had 105.
