ABERDEEN, S.D. (PCSaints.com) –The Lady Saints would drop another pair of games this afternoon, dropping them to 2-21 overall and 1-6 in North Star play. The Lady Saints would drop game one 0-11 in five innings and game two 4-17 in seven innings.
Game one: Comets 11 – Saints 0:
It would be a rocky takeoff for the Lady Saints in game one as they would allow the Comets clean-up batter to clean the bases with a grand slam on a 0-0 count. The Lady Saints would only allow four runs in the first while leaving another two Comet runners on the base path. The Lady Saints would have a chance to cut the lead after Bibiana Villeda(SO/Lake Elsinore, CA) would hit a double down the left field line. She would then advance to third after Cherie Malacas (JR/Lanai City, HI) grounded out to third.
The Lady Saints let up one run in the second inning, then fall one-two-three in the bottom of the inning themselves. The Lady Saints in the third inning would allow five runs on five hits while having an error on a missed catch by Haylie Vallery (SO/Nacogdoches, TX). The Lady Saints would strand one runner on base in that inning. In game one of the afternoon the Lady Saints would leave four runners on the bases and only have two hits; both of which would come from Bibiana Villeda. Game one of today would end in five innings with a score of 11-0, Mayville with the win.
Game two: Comets 17 – Saints 4
Game two of the day would have a little bit of a different feel to it than what game one had. The Lady Saints would walk the leadoff batter for the Comets. Pitcher Darrian Gibson(JR/Box Elder, SD) would rebound nicely with a strikeout, the Lady Saints would follow that up with catcher Celia Cerezo (JR/Chino Hills, CA) finding second basemen Bibiana Villeda for the two-four put out. The Lady Saints in the bottom of the inning would come out with one objective and they certainly stuck to it scoring three runs on two hits with one error by the Comets second basemen. Leadoff batter Cortni Mendoza (SR/Brawley, CA) would find the turf in shallow center field for the leadoff single.
Bibiana Villeda would ground out to second base. Advancing Cortni to third after she swiftly took second base for her tenth stolen base on the year. Cortni would then steal home, but only after getting in a little bit of a pickle on the third baseline. With two stolen bases today Cortni Mendoza leads the team with 11 stolen bases on 13 attempts. The Saints would let up four runs in the top of the second inning and none in the third. Top of the fourth inning down 3-5 the Lady Saints would walk the leadoff batter of the inning for the Comets. The Comets would have a hard-hit triple scoring their two runs of the inning while leaving another three runners on base. The Lady Saints would only be able to score one run in the fourth still trailing 4-7. The Comets would find two more runs in the sixth before blowing the game wide open in the seventh scoring 8 runs after starting the inning off with back-to-back solo home runs. The Lady Saints would drop game two of the afternoon 17-4.
Looking Ahead –The Lady Saints will take a road trip to Forest City, Iowa this coming weekend for a four-game series against the Warriors of Waldorf University. The Lady Saints will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 with game times slated for 2 and 4 pm. They will play Waldorf on Sunday, April 7 with first pitch at 11 am and 1 pm respectively.
