Active COVID-19 cases up 38, no new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s number of active COVID-19 cases rose by 38 today and there were no new deaths, according to figures released by the South Dakota Department of Health. The state had 163 new cases and 125 new recoveries, pushing the amount of active infections to 2,499 (there were 2,892 on week ago). The state’s COVID-related death total remained at 184.

In all, South Dakota has had 16,801 confirmed cases and 14,118 recoveries. There are currently 110 people hospitalized in association with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 10 new cases and 14 new recoveries, lowering the amount of active infections to 139. The county has had 931 total confirmed cases, 789 recoveries, and three deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 5,898 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 1,814, and Lincoln County with 1,087. Other counties totals include Beadle with 665, Brookings with 600, Codington with 591, and Clay with 508.

There have been 668 COVID cases in K-12 schools (446 students and 221 staff) with 453 recoveries. There have been 1,053 COVID cases in the state’s colleges,universities and trades schools (1,004 students and 49 staff) with 860 recoveries.
