PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – Absentee voting for the 2020 General Election begins today in South Dakota. County Auditors have been preparing to send out absentee ballots for those who’ve requested them. Hughes County Auditor Jane Naylor says the phone has been ringing steady in her office.

To get an absentee ballot you’ll need an absentee ballot application and either a copy of your driver’s license or notarized copy of your signature. Naylor says most Auditor offices recommend starting the application process at least 15 days before Election Day to make the deadline.

A drop box for ballots will again be located on the north side of the Hughes County Courthouse.  Naylor says as of Monday 2,400 absentee ballots were waiting for the mailbox.

Hughes County has approximately 11,600 registered voters and Naylor expects around 9,000 ballots to be cast.
