COVID-19 concerns lead to Roncalli-Sisseton football postponement

ABERDEEN, S.D. (By American News staff reports) – Tonight’s Roncalli-Sisseton high school football game has been postponed because of concerns about COVID-19 for the Cavaliers.

Roncalli athletic director Terry Dosch confirmed the decision Thursday night. He said no one on the team has tested positive, but there are “a number” of players who have been quarantined.

“We’re just trying to be cautious and take care of the kids,” Dosch said.

He told the Argus Leader the state health department is still conducting contact tracing and is unsure if any other Roncalli teams are affected. The football team hopes to be cleared to resume practices by next week.

“We’ll continue to follow DOH guidelines and see what happens,” Dosch said.

“We have a game next week,” he said. “Our hope is that maybe that will happen, but I am not a soothsayer.”

Tonight’s game was to be in Sisseton. It’s been rescheduled for Oct. 9.

Sisseton’s homecoming parade is still on, per a social media post by the school.
