State’s active cases drop by more than 2,200; one new death

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – Active COVID-19 cases dropped by more than 2,200 reaching its lowest level in more than seven weeks, hospitalizations also decreased and there was one new COVID-related death according to figures released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state had 594 confirmed cases and 2,824 recoveries, lowering the amount of active cases by 2,230 to 8,756. Hospitalizations fell by six down to 406. The one additional death increased the state’s overall death total to 1,301.

So far, South Dakota has had 93,197 confirmed cases and 83,140 recoveries.

Locally, Brown County had 39 new confirmed cases and 128 recoveries, lowering the amount of active infections by 89 to 345. In all, the county has had 4,159 confirmed cases and 3,767 recoveries. The county has had 47 total COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 23,618 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 10,295, and Lincoln County with 6,265. Other counties totals include Codington with 3,228, Davison with 2,784, Brookings with 2,617, Beadle with 2,441, Lawrence with 2,378, and Yankton with 2,291.
