Dairy Producers President pleased with dietary guidelines

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The USDA And the Department of Health and Human Services have released their Dietary Guidelines through 2025.

South Dakota Dairy Producers President Marv Post says he was glad to see the guidelines recommending three servings of dairy a day.

The Guidelines also recommend including higher fat versions of dairy including whole milk for toddlers ages 12 through 23 months which can also help meet vitamin D, Calcium and Protein needs. Post says that’s another indication of how healthy and important dairy products are for consumers, especially younger ones.

Post says while they’re pleased with these Dietary Guidelines there’s work to do in getting more dairy products into schools.

The Dietary Guidelines also indicate that consistent evidence demonstrates that a healthy dietary pattern including low-fat and fat-free dairy is associated with beneficial outcomes for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, bone health and certain types of cancer.
