PIERRE, S.D.(SDBA)- Republican Representative Will Mortenson (District 24)has filed a resolution proposing two Articles of Impeachment to remove Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg from office. The resolution is co-sponsored by House Majority Leader Kent Peterson (R-District 19) and House Minority Leader Jamie Smith (D-District 15).
Mortenson tells us what the two articles are.
Mortenson compares these articles to the Article of Impeachment former President Trump dealt with.
House Minority Leader Jamie Smith said this is not a partisan issue.
House Majority Leader Kent Peterson said this is about the person & not politics.
Here’s a look at the Articles of Impeachment(HR7001).
Governor Kristi Noem has added her support for the impeachment of state Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg and later released interview Ravnsborg did with investigators.
Governor Noem had called for Ravnsborg to voluntarily resign earlier in the day.
The private media spokesperson representing Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg contacted some media in South Dakota while House members discussed the articles of impreachment.
The statement reads:
“The Attorney General does not intend to resign. At no time has this issue impeded his ability to do the work of the office. Instead, he has handled some of the largest settlements and legislative issues the state has ever been through.
As an attorney and a Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves, AG Ravnsborg has fought for the rule of law and personal liberties and would hope that he is afforded the same right and courtesy.”
