One person dead following two-vehicle crash near Sisseton

SISSETON, S.D.(Press Release) – One person died Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash north of Sisseton.

The names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of family members.

A 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, traveling northbound on Interstate 29, was parked on the shoulder of the road due to a flat tire. The 78-year-old male driver was kneeling near the pickup on the driver’s side. A northbound 2013 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer was northbound on I-29 in driving lane. The truck driver was unable to move over to the passing lane due to another vehicle and struck the pickup and its driver.

The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 55-year-old truck driver was not injured and was wearing a seat belt. Charges are pending.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
