PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota legislature is mandated to redraw election boundaries this year, but the US Census bureau is not making it easy. Official population counts won’t be available until late this year, which will shorten the time to adopt the new maps.

Representative Ryan Cwach of Yankton is a member of the legislative redistricting committee, but questions its direction.

Cwach says they will have to work quickly.

The redistricting committee will hold their first meeting today in Pierre.  Representative Drew Dennert is also a member of the committee.
