PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- While the sale of the state-owned MRC rail line from Mitchell to Rapid City will increase service and development, most of another state-owned line may soon disappear.
Interim Transportation Department Secretary Joel Jundt says the Napa to Platte line is moving toward salvage.
Jundt says much of that line would revert to rail bank status.
Jundt says service west of Tabor isn’t likely anytime soon.
The line has been used mostly for rail car storage over the past few years. There has been considerable development at the rail junction at Napa in western Yankton County.
