An initiative to put the question of Medicaid expansion in South Dakota on the ballot will soon move to actively gathering signatures.
Pam Cole, with the group “Dakotans for Health” says too many people are using emergency rooms as their only health care option.
Cole says better health care options could improve the states workforce.
While it could cost state government up to twenty million dollars to expand Medicaid, Cole says the state could then get up to three hundred million dollars in federal support.
The group plans to gather at least sixty-five thousand signatures in an attempt to get a constitutional amendment on next years general election ballot.
