Avon Superintendent reacting to the restrictions of transgenders to play in girls sports

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- South Dakota lawmakers passed a bill that restricts trans gender student’s participation in sports. Supporters are concerned that women won’t be able to compete fairly.

Avon School Superintendent Tom Culver says many people don’t know how the procedures work.

Culver says they worked with the state Activities Association and Executive Director Dan Swartos in trying to persuade the legislature to wait on the bill.

Culver says they haven’t had any issues yet but do have policies in place.

The bill was killed in committee, then smoked out on the Senate floor and passed. Several groups have already said they will take the issue to court.
