YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The decision by the South Dakota Board of Regents to raise tuition this fall at state universities by 3.4 percent came after a long discussion about revenue and expenses.

Board President Kevin Schieffer says they need more involvement from the public and state government leaders.

Schieffer says they try to keep surprises to a minimum.

Schieffer says the Regents can’t develop a long term strategy.

Schieffer says they have to wait on the legislature each year to see what their base funding will be.
