ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – The Northern State University Music Department is proud to present the “Battle of the Brass” chamber recital this Thursday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center’s Jewett Theater.
This recital will feature two student brass ensembles. Northern’s student brass quintet, the Hub City Brass, will share a recital with the tuba euphonium ensemble 4 Below.
The brass quintet repertoire will include the Malcom Arnold “Brass Quintet No. 1,” Anthony DiLorenzo’s “Fire Dance,” and an arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
The quartet will feature the pieces “Power” and “Manhattan Suite” (both by John Stevens), and an arrangement of Saint-Saens “Bacchanale.”
The members of Hub City Brass include Marissa Hanley, Patrick Calvillo, McKinley Hoselton, Morgan Mewes and Adam Henning. The members of Four Below include Lucas Fredrick, Jakob Walden, Chris Allen and Justin Desens. Both chamber groups are coached by Dr. Travis Netzer.
Due to COVID-19, admission is free to all 2020-21 NSU School of Fine Arts events. Limited seating is available. Masks are required for all patrons, and attendees are asked to follow appropriate social-distancing protocols.
