PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Pierre City Commission is looking to make more regular fireworks use a more regular part of the Fourth of July holiday. Last year the Commission relaxed fireworks ordinances after public input due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Commissioner Jim Mehlhaff says the ordinance would be very specific on fireworks use.
Fire suppression nearby is a requirement of the proposed ordinance along with not using fireworks on public property or discharging fireworks within 50 yards of unmaintained open land, if the grassland fire danger exceeds the High Fire Danger level or a Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service. Second reading of the ordinance will be held on April 20th. A public hearing to get input from the public is set for 5:45pm on April 20th.
