PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The US Census Bureau released the first official numbers of the 2020 Census this week, showing South Dakota grew eight-point nine percent in the last decade, with a total population of 886,667.
Senator Jim Bolin of Canton says that is the first step in the redistricting process.
Each legislative district needs a population of 25,333.
Bolin, who is a member of the legislative redistricting committee, says they can’t start on any kind of official maps yet.
Bolin says he thinks the boundaries of his District 16 in Lincoln and Union Counties should stay intact.
The legislative redistricting committees will hold their first official meeting on June first.
