PIERRE, S.D.(Press Release) – South Dakota’s Department of Public Safety has released the list of sobriety checkpoints to be held during May.
The checkpoints are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol with the help of local law enforcement. The goal of the checkpoints is discourage people from drinking and then driving.
Officials plan to hold 15 checkpoints in 13 counties.
May checkpoints are scheduled for the counties of Brookings, Brown, Butte, Charles Mix, Codington, Jackson, Jerauld, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Stanley and Yankton.
Both the Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are part of the Department of Public Safety.
