ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – The Avera Foundation in Aberdeen announces “It Starts with Us,” a campaign to support the remodel of the Women’s Center at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

The campaign is scheduled to launch on Mother’s Day, May 9.

“It Starts with Us” will provide a full remodel of the existing Birth Place, allowing space for the following:

•New welcome center

•Private entrance

•Renovated family suites

•Remodeled nursery

•Dedicated operating suites

•Family areas

•Enhanced educational space and state-of-the-art technology

In accordance with Avera’s Gospel value of compassion, the plans include an Angel Suite.Unfortunately, not all births go as planned. Situations where moms and dads leave the hospital without flowers, balloons and, most importantly, the child that they had planned a life for happen all too often. The time provided in the hospital is precious as it is the only physical time the family has with their child. It would be incredible to have the patient and family “sheltered and protected” during this extremely unimaginable time.

That is why the Angel Suite will be a protected and private area designed for families challenged by stillborn/neonate bereavement and miscarriages. The calming environment provides an area in the hospital for families challenged by stillborn/neonate bereavement and miscarriages. The environment also provides a homelike setting to make the overall experience gentler for all involved.
