BROOKINGS, S.D.(WNAX)- A webinar on drought conditions in the northern plains showed how quickly the dry areas have expanded.
South Dakota State Climatologist Laura Edwards says it was a rapid transition.
Edwards says the current dry conditions are of an historic nature.
Edwards says there is a tight line between dry and normal conditions.
Some areas of western South Dakota and North Dakota got over an inch of rain over the weekend, providing some short-term relief.
