ABERDEEN, S.D. (Press Release) – Northern State University has named three finalists for the position of NSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The finalists will visit campus beginning next week, with open forums held at the following times and locations:
- Dr. John Ernst: Monday, April 22, 4-4:45 p.m., Williams Library Rotunda
- Dr. Michael Wanous: Monday, April 29, 4-4:45 p.m.; Missouri River Room
- Dr. Tim Crowley: Wednesday, May 1, 4-4:45 p.m.; Missouri River Room
Ernst earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Kentucky and is now dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Kentucky’s Morehead State University. He has been a professor of history at Morehead State since 1994 and his roles there have included chair of the department of history, philosophy and legal studies; executive assistant to the president; and associate vice president for academic affairs and student success.
Wanous, who earned his Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Missouri in Columbia, is currently the vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Indiana’s Huntington University. Prior to that, he was a professor at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, where his positions also included associate academic dean, natural science division chair and biology department chair.
Crowley earned his doctor of musical arts at the University of North Texas and is now associate provost for academic affairs at Fort Hays State University in Kansas. Previous positions there include assistant provost for academic programs and student success; assistant provost for academic programs/dean of the graduate school; and dean of the graduate school/assistant provost for internationalization. A professor of music, Crowley has also served as a department chair at FHSU and Cameron University in Oklahoma.
