ABERDEEN, S.D.(Aberdeen American News)- Around the area, school board elections are planned at Ipswich, Langford and Sisseton on Tuesday, according to public notices in area newspapers.
Ipswich has three candidates running for two seats. They are Tadd Thorson, Dustin Geditz and Rhonda Geditz. Voting is at Ipswich Public School.
Langford has three candidates running for two three-year terms. They are Jennifer Gustafson, Jennifer Wegleitner and Charley Larson. Voting is at the Claremont City Hall, Pierpont Community Building and Langford Community Center.
Sisseton has five candidates seeking to fill the three open seats on the board. All are three-year terms Candidates are Barbara Joseph, Woody Hawkins, William Rice, Jake Schaunaman and Megan Nigg Hilpert. Voting is in the lobby of the Sisseton School Performing Arts Center, Peever Lutheran Church, Clair City Community Center, New Effington Community Center and Veblen City Hall.
Watertown Mayor Sarah Caron and Councilman Ried Holien come from dichotomous backgrounds.
Caron is the daughter of a traveling minister and occupational therapist. Holien is the son of an affluent businessman and kindergarten teacher.
Caron would go on to become an engineer, working for six different mayors throughout her career. Holien would garner degrees in English and government, going on to be a writer, teacher and career politician.
Now, the incumbent and the challenger both want to be mayor.
