PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- Members of the Joint Committee on Appropriations of the South Dakota legislature toured the Developmental Center in Redfield during their east river swing earlier this month.
At a follow up hearing, Department of Human Services Secretary Shawnie Rectenbaugh said they have been making changes as their client population drops.
The center serves people with severe physical and mental development issues.
At the hearing, Representative Steven Haugaard of Sioux Falls, said it may be time to close the center.
Senator Brock Greenfield of Clark, who represents the Redfield area, says any talk of closing needs more debate.
The committee took no action on the center.
