I write to you because I promised transparency, and I owe it to you to discuss the recent news that is being released.

My husband, Scott, has taken a job as the Head Coach of the Fargo Force. This is something that we thought about very much before making the decision, exploring all of our options in depth. Moving up the ranks in hockey is something that has always been in Scott’s dreams, but we’ve known that the opportunity would have to be a great fit.

Scott’s last 5 years with the Wings have been remarkable. His relationship with Greg Odde is one that is truly special, and together they have made the Aberdeen Wings a top program in hockey. Scott has hit every goal he’s had for himself in the NAHL, and because he is such a competitor, he craves a challenge.

Fargo has an incredible hockey program, and will create new challenges for him. With this comes a difficult transition, but one we talked about in detail before making this decision.

My job, my business, and of course my seat on the City Council remain very important to me. This is part of the reason why the Fargo job was so attractive to us—the closeness to Aberdeen. We have decided to not sell our home in Aberdeen, and in fact, it will remain my permanent residence. I will remain living in Aberdeen with our twins, commuting back and forth between Fargo and Aberdeen. We realize that this will be tough, but we are excited to about the opportunity.

I will be able to keep my job with the South Dakota Retailers, for now, as well as my business and my seat on the council. I realize that things will change, but this is our plan. I will continue to be transparent and open with you as things change. While my husband has accomplished all that he can in Aberdeen, I still have work to do here. I love this community and I am not ready to walk away from all that I’ve worked on.

As of right now, I have accomplished a lot on my to-do list, but there is more. We are getting the stoplight at Lawson & Melgaard, we have improved the landscape ordinance on a large level, and I am currently in the process of starting work on the sign ordinance.

Moving forward, I plan to continue retail recruitment, work on creating parks in subdivisions that are currently being built, doing what I can to help with downtown living growth, and being an advocate for small business owners. There are also several street projects that are on my list of things to improve for our Aberdeen.

I am honored to be your City Councilwoman, and I take my position very seriously. I wake up everyday hoping to make this world a better place, and I will continue doing that.

I can’t wait to see what more we can do—it’s going to be amazing.
