PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- Over 1900 people flew out of the Pierre Regional Airport last month.
City commissioner Jamie Huizenga (hi-zin-ga) says it was the first month of having two commercial air service companies operating flights from Pierre to Denver.
Huizenga says so far this year, over 7000 people have started their travels from Pierre.
At the 10-thousand enplanements mark, the Pierre Regional Airport becomes eligible for $1-million in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Between the price of some one-way flights being under $40 and the free parking, Huizenga says it’s extremely affordable to fly out of the Pierre Regional Airport.
You can see flight schedules for both Denver Air Connection and SkyWest, flying as United Express by going to either company’s website or to the Pierre Regional Airport website.
DAC currently holds the federally subsidized Essential Air Service contract to provide commercial air service for Pierre. SkyWest, who previously held the EAS contract, is now flying “at risk”– meaning at its own expense because it no longer receives a federal subsidy.
