ABERDEEN, S.D.(Aberdeen American News)- Brown County’s computer system has started to pick back up again, and most offices are now able to process requests again.

Brown County Emergency Management Director Scott Meints said that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and he could not confirm what happened only that the brown county system was initially turned off by the county’s IT department.

Brown County Commission Chairman Doug Fjeldheim said employees working in the Brown County Communications Department noticed a glitch on Aug. 1, which is a Sunday, so as a precaution the IT department shut the county system down.

Since then, Fjeldheim said, the county has been working with a cyber security firm to back up the county system and get it back online. Part if the investigation will include examination of the hard drives within the county’s servers to determine what happened.

Meints said that the treasurer’s office, auditor and register of deeds are able to continue their services. The treasurer’s office is able to complete some motor vehicle work, and the register of deeds is able to offer vital records.
