South Dakota National Guard told SD Joint Committee on Appropriations about the cost for the mission at the southern border

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The head of the South Dakota National Guard says Governor Kristi Noem didn’t tell him she would use a private donation to help fund the deployment of the Guard to the Texas – Mexico border until after the mission was already planned.

Major General Jeffery Marlette appeared before the interim Joint Committee on Appropriations in Pierre. He detailed the costs for the mission.

Marlette says not all the money budgeted has been spent.

Marlette says total costs will depend on how long the soldiers are deployed.

Noem accepted a one-million-dollar donation from a Tennessee billionaire to help fund the mission.
