PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission is charged with licensing and monitoring grain dealers and elevators.
Commission Chairman Chris Nelson says those selling grain have an obligation to check out where and who they are dealing with.
Nelson says the normal rules of buying and selling apply.
The Farmers Cooperative Elevator in Avon had their grain dealer license suspended on July first when their bond was canceled.
Nelson says they PUC had been working with them for several years.
The PUC has been criticized by grain sellers for not being proactive enough in past cases where buyers have defaulted on contracts.
