PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The “Workforce Housing Needs” study committee of the South Dakota legislature wrapped up their interim meetings Monday in Pierre.

The committee has been looking at housing issues and solutions across the state.

During the wrap up discussion, Representative Tim Goodwin of Rapid City suggested expanding the Governors Home program underway at Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield.

Representative Jamie Smith of Sioux Falls says there has to be follow through on their recommendations.

Committee Chairman, Representative Roger Chase of Huron, says he knew it was an important issue.

Chase told committee members to consolidate any bills they have and look for co-sponsors in the other chamber.

Chase says they will have some solid recommendations for housing incentives to the 2022 session.

Chase says developing housing infrastructure was a common theme.

Chase says the committee heard numerous issues and solutions for housing.

Chase says he expects workforce housing to ba a major issue for next year’s legislature.
