YANKTON, SD (WNAX) – Offenses connected to controlled substances will be among the summer study topics for South Dakota legislators.

Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton is Vice Chair of the committee and says they need some facts and figures when they start.

Kennedy says they have seen prison inmate numbers rise rapidly.

Kennedy says prison becomes a very expensive place to house drug offenders.

The committee also includes members from law enforcement, the judicial system and the attorney generals office.
