RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- While the tarmac of an airport might be the last place a regular civilian wants to see a fire, for the Rapid City Fire Department this week, there is nowhere else to train.
Quite literally – Tess Jaeger, public information officer for the RCFD, said this is specialist training is specific to airports.
Jaeger said a firefight in a plane is vastly different from more traditional fires of grass or wood.
Jaeger, who is not a trained firefighter, said she was struck when she entered the simulated plane, complete with smoke, loud conditions, and faux-victims.
This training is required for all airports with commercial flights, according to the FAA.
