PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- Until further notice, the Avera Medical Group Clinic in Pierre is requiring an appointment for all services, including urgent care.
Dr. Mikel Holland, President and Chief Medical Officer at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, says there are a few things causing the need for appointments.
Holland says he’s not discouraging people from getting tested.
If people develop symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, diarrhea, runny nose or body aches, Holland says don’t pass it off as a cold or the flu. Get tested – it could be COVID-19.
He says people must also continue to be vigilant about following COVID-19 mitigation practices.
Holland says the COVID vaccines are doing a great job of preventing cases, hospitalizations and deaths in our overall population. He says the majority of COVID-19 cases requiring ICU care are among the unvaccinated, as are deaths from the virus.
Clinic hours remain 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. Urgent care hours are 8am-7pm Monday-Friday and 9am-noon on Saturdays. Individuals are asked to call the clinic at 605-224-5901 to schedule an appointment. For COVID-19 testing, call 605-945-4984.
