RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- The Auburn Fire approaches 1,000 burned acres, and fire crews remain on the lines as the fire continues its long, thin northern spread.
Tessa Jaeger, public information officer for the Rapid City Fire Department said while fire has taken an unconventional shape, it can still be overcome.
Jaeger said hot, fire-friendly days continue to be paired with cooler nights, to the benefit of crews.
Yesterday another fire, the Red Shirt Fire, sparked on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
At 650 acres, that burn is significant enough to force resources to be shared between the Auburn and Red Shirt Fires.
Evacuated residents are back in their homes as of last night, and the fire remains at 50% containment.
