USD & SDSU Presidents react to the Board of Regents mandate on student opportunities

RAPID CITY, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Board of Regents has mandated that the six universities move away from diversity efforts and focus on student opportunities.

During their meeting at the School of Mines in Rapid City this week, University of South Dakota President Sheila Gestring explained the changes they are making on their campus,

Gestring says they want to assist students to find the help and information they need.

Gesting says they are also working with their alumni base.

Some legislators had criticized the diversity centers on campus that were too narrowly focused on only a few students.

South Dakota State University President Barry Dunn outlined their plans to help students succeed.

Dunn says they want to offer some educational benefits too.

Dunn says they will have an online presence.

No members of the Regents had any issues with those plans.
