BROOKINGS, S.D.(WNAX)- With a La Nina forecast to develop in the southern Pacific Ocean, some of those impacts could start showing up in our weather in the next month.

A La Nina occurs when below normal sea surface temperatures are observed in the Pacific Ocean.

South Dakota State Climatologist Laura Edwards says the outlook is for near normal November temperatures.

Edwards says precipitation chances start to trend upward.

Edwards says the three month outlook continues that La Nina trend.

Most La Nina years have included cooler than normal temperatures and above normal snow and rain across the northern plains.
