PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Nearly every South Dakota legislative district has a new look following the completion of redistricting by the South Dakota legislature last week. District 24 is expanding square mileage to the west by picking up Haakon County, which Senator Mary Duvall thinks fits.
Most central South Dakota counties were saved from being split into multiple districts. Jones County wasn’t so lucky. It was split nearly in half, diagonally with the north and east in District 26-A and the west and south in 26-B.
Duvall says it was difficult trying to keep counties in one piece.
While District 24 is adding Haakon County it is losing portions of Hughes and Hyde County included on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation.
