FREEMAN, S.D.(WNAX)- While the attention has been on social studies standards being rewritten by the South Dakota Department of Education, most subject standards are redone every five to seven years.
Jake Tietje, Superintendent at Freeman Public Schools, says they work within the frame of the state standards.
Tietje says teachers can adapt the standards in their classrooms.
Tietje says the school board can decide on the necessary support materials for teaching to the standards.
A new work group is being formed to come up with social studies standards. Those may be in place for school districts by next fall.
