RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- In front of the Journey Museum in Rapid City, a collection of red dresses flutter solemnly in the wind, encircling a wooden teepee.
Lily Mendoza, founder of the Red Ribbon Skirt Society, which highlights cases of missing and murdered indigenous peoples, said this display is part of a long history of communal support and grief.
Mendoza said these efforts unify the community.
Mendoza shared the mixed emotions that come from these types of displays.
Those interested in supporting the Red Ribbon Skirt Society are encouraged to speak with Lily at the Birdcage Bookstore in downtown Rapid City to get involved.
