YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – While an El Nino weather condition has been predicted for some time, it has been slow to arrive.

Doug Kluck, Climate Service Director for the Central Region of the National Weather Service, says they are now seeing more evidence of its arrival.

An El Nino occurs when southern Pacific Ocean surface temperature rise above long term normals. That can have a significant impact on North American weather.

Kluck says there are some typical effects.

Kluck says it also looks like this El Nino will be fairly weak.

Kluck says most forecasts agree that the El Nino will fade by early to mid-summer.
