WASHINGTON, D.C.(WNAX)- Republicans and democrats in the US Senate are at odds over doing away with the filibuster to move on the voting rights act.

South Dakota Senator John Thune says republicans have held firm on keeping the filibuster.

Thune says they seem to have the votes to hold on to the filibuster right now.

Thune says they see the filibuster as a necessary part of the legislative process.

President Biden has urged democrats to force a vote on the filibuster to get to debate on the voting rights act.
