PIERRE, S.D.(KOTA)- The American Civil Liberties Union has come out strongly against SB46 – the so-called “fairness in women’s sports” bill making its way through South Dakota’s legislature.
Jett Jonelis is the advocacy manager for ACLU South Dakota and, while decrying the bill as unconstitutional, responded to recent comments from Governor Kristi Noem counsel Mark Miller.
Jonelis, who embraces a non-conforming gender identity, said there is an important factor being forgotten, or ignored, by lawmakers.
Jonelis said non-conforming voices can’t be ignored by those holding the microphone.
Jonelis, following a deep sigh and a second of thought, said they feel “deeply disappointed” with the status of SB46 and the state of transgender issues in South Dakota.
