SiOUX CENTER, I.A.(WNAX)- Even before construction is completed on the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, plans are in the works to upsize the water treatment plant from forty-five to sixty million gallons a day.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds was in Sioux Center, Iowa on Friday, awarding the project extra funding.

Lewis & Clark Executive Director Troy Larson says it’s a down payment on that expansion.

Larson says they have asked for similar funding from Minnesota and South Dakota.

Larson says that money will go for the infrastructure needed in Iowa.

Larson says with extra funding for the base system, they hope to have all their members connected within the next few years.

The system pumps water to towns and cities in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota from wells near the Missouri River south of Vermillion.
