BROOKINGS, S.D. (WNAX) – An Emerald Ash Borer infestation is slowly spreading across the region, with confirmation of the bugs in Sioux Falls, Sioux City and the Omaha area.
South Dakota State University forestry expert John Ball says it is a good idea to start taking down ash trees.
Ball says not to rely on any one tree species as replacements.
Ball says there are a number of trees that do well in the northern plains.
Dutch elm disease swept through the region in the 1960s and 70s taking out most of those trees.
