ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- The Aberdeen Wings and Aberdeen Cougar Hockey are hosting a free community event where you can take a seat and see what it’s like to play sled hockey.
- 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday
- Holum Expo Building
- Brown County Fairgrounds
The Sioux Center Lightning team is bringing their sleds and sticks so all you need to do is dress warm and come out and have fun.
Following the event, head over to the Odde Ice Center and watch the Aberdeen Wings in action as they take on the North Iowa Bulls. After the Wings game there will be an actual sled hockey scrimmage for you to watch as well.
What Is Sled Hockey?
Sled Hockey enables youth and adults to play hockey sitting down in an adaptive sled. Each sled has a specially designed seat attached to an aluminum frame with two hockey skate blades underneath. Instead of one stick, the players use two shorter sticks. One end of the stick has a metal “pic” to help the player move around the ice. The other end looks like a hockey stick blade and is used to pass and shoot the puck.
