Supporters of livestock slaughter plant for western Iowa seeking comment

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- Backers of a livestock slaughter plant proposed for western Iowa are holding investor meetings around the region.

Cattlemen’s Heritage is planning a four hundred fifty-million-dollar plant that would kill about fifteen hundred head of cattle a day.

Frank Maher, with Jennings Kallen Advisors says they will be looking for cattle across a wide area.

Maher, at a meeting in Yankton, says it’s a chance for livestock producers to invest and get a fair return.

Cattle producers are being asked for a minimum investment of one hundred thousand dollars which would get them priority for shackle space at the plant.

Maher says they want to make physical progress this year.

The plant will employ about seven hundred fifty people in a single shift and will offer onsite childcare and health services. Nearby subsidized housing will also be an option.
