PIERRE, S.D.(KJJQ)- Another step forward for a bill that would change local election dates in South Dakota.

It would move school and municipal election dates from the current April, May or June to either the June primary or November General Election. It passed out of Senate Local Government Wednesday morning on a 5-2 vote.

Senator Jim Bolin of Canton spoke in favor.

A number of county auditors spoke against the bill including Sheri Lund from Lincoln County. She and others say it will be a logistical nightmare.

The measure would take effect in 2025. It earlier passed the house and now heads to the Senate floor.
