FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A board that oversees emergency medical services for Pierre, Fort Pierre, Hughes and Stanley County is giving consideration to the possible implementation of an ambulance district. Fort Pierre Mayor Gloria Hanson says the board is considering tripling the costs each entity pays in for ambulance service due to rising costs.
Hanson says a resolution would be the easiest way to establish an ambulance district. Ambulance service would be funded differently than it is now in a District.
Hanson says the Ambulance Board would like to push the idea to voters.
Ambulance Board liaison to the Fort Pierre City Council Scott Deal says per household in the city the projected cost could be an additional 40 to 50 dollars in taxes. With the growth of the Spring Creek area into Sully County Hanson says there is some discussion of seeing if Sully County and Onida would consider joining a possible ambulance district.
