PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The South Dakota Department of Transportation Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan is the plan submitted to federal officials outlining how South Dakota plans to roll out a charging network for E-Vs.  Director of Planning and Engineering Mike Behm says some auto makers are looking to provide some charging infrastructure.

Behm says one of the biggest challenges in rolling out an E-V charging network is convincing businesses to host stations.

Dealing with peak demand for electricity is also a concern.

A third challenge is creating opportunities for small or financially disadvantaged businesses to host charging stations.  The cost of a NEVI or National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure compliant charger can be as much as one –million dollars per charger.
